Nadine and I are constant supporters of local shopping. If you don't believe us just have a look at our shopping picks - we have reviewed over 50 shops and restaurants in Calgary and Perth since starting our blog. We love the luxury of boutique shopping - finding that one-of-a-kind item with a certain quality and uniqueness that you just can't get from a mall - not to mention the service.
Because of my love of local, I have decided to create a Calgary gift guide, featuring a few of my favourite stores located everywhere in the city from Inglewood and Kensington, to downtown. These four shops are not to be missed this Christmas season, so be sure to stop by.
A Vintage Affair - Easily my favourite vintage and retro store in all of Calgary, this little shop full of one-of-a-kind treasures is perfect when you're on the hunt for a quirky friend that's hard to buy for. AVA carries vintage fashion, accessories and home decor from every era and is now selling vintage wedding dresses from the 1920s to 60s.
2 - Vintage fox fur collar with 1950s brooch
3 - Hand Stamped Vintage Cutlery imprinted with various witty phrases $16 each
Purr - With brands like BB Dakota, Free People, Sugarhill and Fidelity Denim, Purr is a must-visit when doing your Christmas shopping. You can find almost anything in this boutique, with a style ranging from feminine to hipster - think gorgeous beaded dresses and glittering Peter Pan collars, contrasted by Herschel backpacks and fun graphic tees. Purr also offers some the most affordable boutique pricing in town and has three locations here in the city.
2 - Pamela Barsky Pouch $22
3 - Rifle Paper Co. Floral Design Iphone 5 Case $36
Pockets and Pearls - We adore this online Alberta-based company, carrying unique, handcrafted pieces that are all designed and produced within Canada. Edmonton native, Amanda Poetker's love of fashion and supporting local industry inspired her to create one of Western Canada's first online shopping sites, selling Canadian wares exclusively.
1 - Handmade Meg Top by Serendipity $50 (see our post on Serendipity).
2 - Constantinople Chain Necklace by Eliasz and Ella $64
3 - "Love" Watercolour Print by Justine Ma (8x10) $17
Adorn Boutique - Adorn was one of the first boutique's I visited after moving to Calgary and I have been in love with it ever since. This little gem, located in Inglewood (one of my favourite shopiing neighbourhoods) is full of feminine clothing, gorgeous high-quality bags and a hand crafted jewelry line designed by the owner Janine herself. Stop by and I promise you won't be able to leave empty handed. (See our feature on Adorn).
